Ben Kinmont Bookseller was formerly located in Sebastopol’s Barlow development. The owner deals in antiquarian books on gastronomy and is an artist as well. The space was divided in half with one side for the books and office, and the other side for art. The space was originally used as a warehouse and has high ceilings and an existing skylight. The owner had a 14’ tall custom bookcase fabricated to house his collection of reference books. The shelves were placed so that they could be washed with light from the skylight above, drawing your eye toward it as you entered the space. Books on display were illuminated by vintage light fixtures. Fritz Architecture-Urbanism handled the construction documents, permitting and construction coordination for the project.
